Girl, I couldn't agree more with that!
While pregnancy seems blissful and beautiful to onlookers, it is quite a challenging period for some expecting mothers, especially those who have to deal with the constant pain, fatigue, and swelling, plus changes to their skin and hair.
These difficult times may cause expecting mothers to sometimes neglect their self-care, and they are not to be blamed for this because it is a challenging task for some of us even without pregnancy.
Here are a few tips that can make you feel like yourself again while having a bun in the oven.
Skincare over make up
Need I say more? A beautiful glowing skin sets the basis to look your best at all times. Although there are limitations to the type of safe skincare products that can be used during pregnancy, it's important to know that good skin can still be achievable.

โ What to avoid:
Using skin care products containing ingredients such as retinol, benzoyl peroxide, salicylic acid, essential oils, Accutane, formaldehyde, chemical sunscreen, and hydroquinone during pregnancy may be harmful to your fetus.
These ingredients are generally safe to use on a normal day in their right proportions, but it's safe to stay away from them during this period.
That being said, having a good skincare routine and a good looking at skin automatically boosts your confidence and reduces the amount of time spent on a heavy "quick fix" makeup.
โ Safer alternatives:
โ Moisturizers containing shea butter are always a great option because they help maintain the skin's elasticity while improving and/or preventing stretch marks.
โ Choosing products with lactic acid and glycolic acid as active ingredients is key to spotless, glowing skin due to their exfoliating benefits. But they should only be used at night to avoid sun damage.
โ A niacinamide-based lotion or cream can also help reduce the appearance of dark patches on the skin (Melasma) that occur during pregnancy.
"You're one workout away from a good mood!"
It doesn't have to be completed. A 15minute stretch or a few steps around the block each morning can set the mood as it allows your body to produce the "happy hormones" needed to keep you active all day long. If you feel the need to do more than that, consider these;
โ Squats to strengthen your pelvic floor.
โ Planks to strengthen abdominal muscles.
โ 30 minutes walk to improve your cardiovascular system.
Go ahead and treat yourself. You deserve it.
While doing this, remember to make good choices that will elevate your mood, mental health, and self-confidence.
โ Get a foot massage if you have to.
โ Get a new hairdo.
โ Get a maternity photoshoot.
โ Make healthy food choices. "You are what you eat."
โ Buy new clothes if you can afford them.

At the end of the day, taking your self-care seriously is the first step to looking beautiful and feeling confident during pregnancy despite the difficulties that come along during these 9 months.
So be kind to yourself. Spend extra time on your looks. You deserve it.
